Aquaman Has Already Reached $383.4 Million Worldwide

Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Aquaman movie opened to an estimated $28 million from 4,125 theaters in North America on Friday as it easily topped the box office over fellow newcomers Mary Poppins ReturnsBumblebeeSecond Act, and Welcome to Marwen. If you add the previous special opening and preview events for Aquaman, the film is up to $32.7 million. The film received an A- CinemaScore, as did Mary Poppins Returns and Bumblebee.

Aquaman again dominated the international box office and is now playing in 70 overseas markets. On Friday, the movie added $18.9 million from 30,100 screens and is now up to $350.7 million internationally, with $214.3 million coming from China alone (it’s the third-highest grossing superhero movie ever there). That’s a worldwide total of $383.4 million.

Mary Poppins Returns was released on Wednesday in North America and could earn over $30 million over its first five days, while Bumblebee is looking at a mid-$20 million opened for Friday through Sunday.

From director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime – one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worth of who he was born to be… a king.

The film also stars Amber Heard (Justice LeagueMagic Mike XXL) as Mera, a fierce warrior and Aquaman’s ally throughout his journey, Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (PlatoonSpider-Man 2) as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne, Patrick Wilson (The Conjuringfilms, Watchmen) as Orm/Ocean Master, the present King of Atlantis, Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables films) as Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (BaywatchThe Get Down) as the vengeful Black Manta, and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (The HoursLion) as Arthur’s mom, Atlanna, as well as Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Captain Murk, Atlantean Commando, and Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the ClonesGreen Lantern) as Arthur’s dad, Tom Curry.

Wan directs from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2) and Will Beall (Gangster Squad, TV’s Training Day), story by Geoff Johns & James Wan and Will Beall, based on the characters from DC, Aquaman created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. The film is produced by Peter Safran and Rob Cowan, with Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada serving as executive producers.
