Tenet Release Set for Overseas Markets and Select U.S. Theaters

-

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that the international Tenet release has been set before the Christopher Nolan movie will open in U.S. theaters. The anticipated film will now debut in 70 international territories on August 26 before opening in select cities in North America on September 3.

The international Tenet release will include countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, Spain and the UK. While theaters have started opening in China, the movie is not scheduled to open there yet.

This is the third Tenet release date change after originally targeting July 17, 2020. It was then pushed back to July 31 and finally to August 12. The studio announced last week that the movie would not make the August 12 date.

With the movie costing around $200 million to produce (not including marketing), Warner Bros. has no intention of debuting the film On Demand or on the HBO Max streaming service.

John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle Tenet. Armed with only one word — Tenet — and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion.

The cast also includes Robert Pattinson (Twilight films, upcoming The Batman), Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh. Christopher Nolan directed from his own original screenplay, utilizing a mixture of IMAX and 70mm film to bring the story to the screen.

The film is being produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas. Thomas Hayslip is serving as executive producer. The movie reportedly carries a budget of $205 million, making it Nolan’s most expensive original film.

Nolan’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Hoyte van Hoytema, production designer Nathan Crowley, editor Jennifer Lame, costume designer Jeffrey Kurland, and visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson.

The Warner Bros. release is a Syncopy Production and the score is being composed by Ludwig Göransson.
