In a new developer diary released today, Dutch developer Guerrilla Games has revealed that they are targeting the Horizon Forbidden West release date for 2021. In the video, which you can watch below, game director Mathijs de Jonge also shares that there will virtually be no loading screens because of the PlayStation 5.
Horizon Forbidden West is the highly-anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. In the first game, the Forbidden West is the Carja name given to the land west of the daunt, which de Jonge describes as spanning from Utah to the Pacific Ocean in the West. The region is known for its mystery and danger.
Horizon Forbidden West is officially described as follows: “Horizon Forbidden West continues Aloy’s story as she moves west to a far-future America to brave a majestic, but dangerous frontier where she’ll face awe-inspiring machines and mysterious new threats.”
Horizon Zero Dawn (buy at Amazon) was released on February 28, 2017 to widespread critical acclaim, winning numerous industry awards. The game has sold over 10 million copies, making it one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games.
Horizon Zero Dawn is an exhilarating action role playing game where you play as Aloy, a young hunter on a quest to discover her destiny among the remnants of the ancient past. The game is set in a lush, post-post-apocalyptic world where machines roam the land and mankind is no longer the dominant species.
In the world, nature has reclaimed the ruins of a forgotten civilization and pockets of humanity live on in primitive hunter-gatherer tribes. Their dominion over the new wilderness has been usurped by the Machines – fearsome mechanical creatures of unknown origin.
An expansion, The Frozen Wilds, was released in November 2017. The Frozen Wilds takes you beyond the northern mountains, where the borderlands of the Banuk tribe challenge all who dare enter to survive the extremes. But now this frozen wilderness harbors a new threat, and for Aloy, a new mystery – one she’s determined to solve.
