Netflix Renews Blood & Water and Valeria for Second Seasons

-

Netflix announced today that African original series Blood & Water and Spanish series Valeria have both been renewed for a second season.

In the second season of Blood & Water, we will see Puleng and Fikile deal with the consequences of their explosive confrontation as more mystery and drama unfolds.

Khosi Ngema, Ama Qamata, Natasha Thahane, Gail Mabalane, Cindy Mahlangu, Thabang Molaba, Arno Greeff and Dillon Windvogel are all expected to return for Blood & Water Season 2.

Returning Showrunner and Director Nosipho Dumisa said: “Blood & Water’s success is a testament to the hard work put in by the entire team towards expanding the African narrative in a new and exciting direction. It’s a privilege and a blessing to return to our beloved characters, as we delve further into the greater mystery and scandals of their world. Parkhurst is about to get really messy.”

Dorothy Ghettuba, head of Netflix African Originals, added: “We are thrilled at the joy and excitement Blood & Water has brought to our viewers around the world. We know our viewers were left with questions and those answers await them in the second season of Blood & Water.

“We’re even more delighted to share our continued commitment to showcase only the best-in-class young adult stories that reflect more young people’s lives on screen, especially now in June as South Africa observes Youth Month.”

Gambit Films will return as the production team behind season 2. Executive producer Bradley Joshua said: “We are humbled and extremely pleased that Season 1 has had the success that it has and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back for an even more exciting Season 2.”

Blood & Water is set at Parkhurst College, a prestigious inner-city school for Cape Town’s elite scholars and academic overachievers. The show follows the exploits of the intelligent, proactive and impulsive 16-year-old Puleng Khumalo, who engineered her transfer to the school to investigate the 17-year-old cold case of her abducted-at-birth older sister.

Valeria is a TV adaptation of Elísabet Benavent’s literary saga (buy at Amazon). In the second season, Valeria (Diana Gómez) must face a decision that could mark her future as a writer: to hide behind a pseudonym and finally live from her profession, or to renounce the publication of her novel and continue squeezing the inexhaustible world of junk contracts.

Her love life is not much more stable… Fortunately, although the foundations of her life are shaking, Valeria continues to have the support of three fundamental pillars: her friends Lola (Silma López), Carmen (Paula Malia) and Nerea (Teresa Riott), who are also going through a turbulent period in their lives.

Valeria‘s cast is led by Diana Gómez (45 revoluciones, Money Heist), Silma López (Cosas de la vida), Paula Malia (The neighbor) and Teresa Riott (Barcelona nit d’estiu). Maxi Iglesias returns to play Victor, Valeria’s biggest headache, and Ibrahim Al Shami (El secreto de Puente Viejo) will once again put himself in the shoes of Adrián, the husband of this struggling writer.
