James Cameron Directs in New Avatar Photos!

-

Following his photo of Sigourney Weaver and Joel David Moore (see below), producer Jon Landau has shared more Avatar photos that feature James Cameron directing the sequels.

“A couple of behind the scenes stills of Jim giving the actors direction before they dive underwater to capture performances for a scene from the Avatar sequels,” said Landau.

He added: “What is the white stuff on the water surface? They are small white balls that are needed to prevent the lights from above contaminating the performance capture system below… while still allowing anyone below to surface safely through them should the need arise.

Fascinating stuff! You can view more of the previously-released Avatar photos below.

In December of 2019, it was announced that live-action filming for the anticipated sequels had wrapped.”That’s a wrap for 2019, Na’vi Nation!” said the production. “Today was our last day of live-action filming in New Zealand, and we’re celebrating with a sneak peek — check out this photo of the aft well deck section of the Sea Dragon, a massive mothership that carries an array of other sea-going craft in the Avatar sequels.”

Since then, the unveiling of the Avatar-inspired Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR took place at CES in Las Vegas in January. At the presentation, we got the first official concept art for the Avatar sequels which you can view below.

VISION AVTR stands for Mercedes-Benz’s close collaboration in developing the showcar together with the Avatar team and for Advanced Vehicle Transformation. The concept vehicle connects human, machine and nature in an unprecedented way.

The second film, Avatar: The Way of Water, is scheduled to be released by Disney’s 20th Century Fox on December 17, 2021. Avatar: The Seed Bearer will follow on December 22, 2023.

Then Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa are coming to theaters on December 19, 2025 and December 17, 2027.

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver are returning for the Avatar sequels. Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, and Jemaine Clement are also on board.

The young members of the Sully family are played by Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton, and Trinity Bliss, while the Metkayina Clan members are played by Bailey Bass, Filip Geljo, and Duane Evans Jr. Jack Champion is playing Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teenager, born at Hell’s Gate but who prefers his time in the Pandoran rainforest more than the asphalt of Hell’s Gate.

The Avatar sequels will be produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau through their Lightstorm Entertainment. The James Cameron-directed sequels are written by Cameron along with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.
