Westworld Season 4 Given the Green Light by HBO

HBO has given the green light to Westworld Season 4, it was announced today by Casey Bloys, president, HBO Programming.

“From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy,” noted Bloys. “We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”

Westworld returned for its eight-episode third season Sunday, March 15. A dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the question of free will, the show was created for television by Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy, who are also executive producers. Nolan directed the season’s premiere episode, which has surpassed nine million viewers across all platforms.

Westworld was lauded as “the most epic show on TV” by Decider. TV Guide hailed the season as “dazzling,” “exhilarating,” and “incredibly relevant,” and Variety called it a “crowdpleasing ride through the world of the future.” The New York Times deemed it “sleek and eye-catching,” while NPR called season three “more entertaining than ever before.”

Westworld was created for television by Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy, who are executive producers with Denise Thé, J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Richard J. Lewis, and Ben Stephenson. The production companies include Kilter Films and Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television; based on the film written by Michael Crichton.

There’s two episodes left in the third season. Episode 7 will air on Sunday, April 26 and is titled “Passed Pawn.” It is described as follows: “A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.” Directed by Helen Shaver, the seventh episode was written by Gina Atwater.

The third season will close out with Episode 8, titled “Crisis Theory,” airing on Sunday, May 3, and described as follows: “Time to face the music.” The episode was directed by Jennifer Getzinger from a script by Denise Thé and Jonathan Nolan.

The returning cast members in Season 3 include Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores, Emmy winner Thandie Newton as Maeve, Ed Harris as Man in Black, Jeffrey Wright as Bernard, Tessa Thompson as Charlotte, Luke Hemsworth as Stubbs, and Rodrigo Santoro as Hector Escaton.

Having joined the cast this season are Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, Bojack Horseman) as Caleb, Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) as Serac, Lena Waithe (HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show, Master of None) as Ash, Scott Mescudi (HBO’s upcoming We Are Who We Are) as Francis, Marshawn Lynch (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Giggles, John Gallagher Jr. (HBO’s The Newsroom and Olive Kitteridge) as Liam, Michael Ealy (Stumptown) as Jake, and Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Conells.
