The Flash, Shazam 2 and The Batman Release Date Changes

With movie productions not able to continue filming at the moment, Warner Bros. Pictures has made some more changes to its upcoming slate, including three comic book movies. First up, the studio has decided to push back The Batman release date from June 25, 2021 to October 1, 2021. That’s the same weekend that Joker opened.

Robert Pattinson (upcoming Tenet) is leading The Batman cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Starring alongside Pattinson as Gotham’s famous and infamous cast of characters are Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton, Jeffrey Wright as the GCPD’s James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Reál, Andy Serkis as Alfred ,and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot.

Directed by Matt Reeves , the film is produced by Reeves and Dylan Clark (the Planet of the Apes films). Simon Emanuel, Michael E. Uslan, Walter Hamada and Chantal Nong Vo serve as executive producers.

Warner Bros. has also moved up The Flash from July 1, 2022 to June 3, 2022, while the Shazam sequel is being pushed back from April 1, 2022 to November 4, 2022.

Andy Muschietti (IT films) will direct The Flash movie, to be produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco. Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson was reportedly writing the script. Ezra Miller, who played The Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, remains attached to lead the cast.

The first Shazam! movie opened in theaters on April 5, 2019 and grossed $364.6 million worldwide. It is an origin story that stars Zachary Levi as the titular DC super hero, along with Asher Angel as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong in the role of super-villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. David F. Sandberg directed from a script by Henry Gayden and Peter Safran produced.

As far as the non-comic book movies, The Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark had been set for September 25, 2020 but will now debut on March 12, 2021. The Many Saints of Newark takes place in the 1960s, when riots swept through Newark, New Jersey and conflicts between African-American and Italian residents were at their worst. A few of the characters from The Sopranos are expected to appear in the movie.

Alan Taylor will direct the movie for New Line Cinema. David Chase, creator of the series, wrote the script for with Lawrence Konner. Chase will produce and Nicole Lambert will executive produce.

Getting an April 16, 2021 release date is writer/director Lisa Joy’s sci-fi movie Reminiscence, starring Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson, and Thandie Newton. Jackman plays a man who offers clients the chance to relive any memory, but he must go into his own memory when his love is implicated in violent crimes.

Previously scheduled for The Batman release date of October 1, 2021 date was the studio’s Elvis Presley movie, which will now open in theaters on November 5, 2021. In the movie, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Baz Luhrmann will explore the life and music of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler), through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker, played in the film by two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks.

And Warner Bros.’ King Richard was delayed from November 25, 2020 until November 19, 2021. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin, the film stars Will Smith, Aunjanue Ellis, Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Jon Bernthal, Liev Schreiber, and Dylan McDermott.

The movie will give a look back at how tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams became who they are after the coaching from their father Richard Williams.
