New A Quiet Place 2, Top Gun 2 and SpongeBob Movie Release Dates

-

Paramount Pictures has made some big changes to its release schedule due to current events. The films getting new dates today include A Quiet Place 2Top Gun: Maverick, and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

The SpongeBob Movie was going to open in theaters on May 22, 2020 but will now debut on July 31, 2020. Sponge on the Run is the third SpongeBob feature film following 2004’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and 2015’s The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (buy both movies at Amazon).

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run

In Sponge on the Run, after SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.

The new film is directed and written by former series writer Tim Hill. The movie is produced by Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Movies, and United Plankton Pictures with animation provided by Mikros Image. The voice cast includes Tom Kenny, Awkwafina, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Douglas Lawrence, and Reggie Watts.

Previously scheduled for a March 20, 2020 release, A Quiet Place Part II will now open in theaters on September 4, 2020, which is usually the slow Labor Day weekend. However, by that time, moviegoers will probably want to catch more movies at theaters.

In A Quiet Place 2, following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

Paramount and Skydance Productions’ Top Gun: Maverick has also been moved from June 24, 2020 to December 23, 2020. That move has also caused the Chris Pratt film The Tomorrow War to be pushed back to an unknown date. It was going to open on December 25, 2020.

Top Gun: Maverick takes place 34 years after the events of the original film and pits legendary Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as the new flight instructor of Top Gun, in which he guides Bradley, Goose’s son, who seeks to become a pilot much as his father was.

Miles Teller plays Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw in Top Gun: Maverick from Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.

When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt.
