Lionsgate Pushes Back Antebellum, Run and Spiral

-

With all the major movie theater chains closing for up to 12 weeks, Lionsgate will be moving back their upcoming releases Antebellum, Run and Spiral: From the Book of Saw. Antebellum was set for release on April 24, Run was set for May 8, and Spiral was set for May 15.

These films will remain undated for the time being and the studio will announce the next steps, dates, and strategies for bringing these films to the public once there is more clarity on when theaters will safely and fully resume operations.

“When this challenging moment is behind us, we eagerly anticipate audiences experiencing these films,” said Lionsgate.

The films join A Quiet Place Part II, Black Widow, F9, No Time to Die and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway as some of the major films to be delayed due to the pandemic.

Antebellum

Antebellum stars Janelle Monáe, Marque Richardson II, Eric Lang, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone.

The film was directed and written by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz (Bush+Renz). Principal photography for the movie began in May 2019. In the film, successful author Veronica Henley (Monáe) finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late.

The movie was produced by Gerard Bush, Christopher Renz, Raymond Mansfield, Sean McKittrick, Zev Foreman, and Lezlie Wills.

Run

Run, directed by Searching filmmaker Aneesh Chaganty from a script by Chaganty and Sev Ohanian (Searching), stars Sarah Paulson and introduces Kiera Allen.

They say you can never escape a mother’s love… but for Chloe, that’s not a comfort — it’s a threat. There’s something unnatural, even sinister about the relationship between Chloe (newcomer Kiera Allen) and her mom, Diane (Sarah Paulson). Diane has raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth, and there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp.

From the visionary writers, producers and director of the breakout film Searching, comes a suspense thriller that shows that when mom gets a little too close, you need to RUN.

Lionsgate presents the Search Party production, produced by Natalie Qasabian, p.g.a., and Sev Ohanian, p.g.a. Torin Borrowdale, who previously collaborated with Chaganty on Searching, composed the film’s score.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw

A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw stars Chris Rock, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Samuel L. Jackson, and is produced by the original Saw team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules. The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Josh Stolberg & Pete Goldfinger.

The executive producers are Daniel Jason Heffner, Chris Rock, James Wan, Leigh Whannell, Stacey Testro, Jason Constantine, Greg Hoffman, and Kevin Greutert.

The film, which has previously been described as “Saw on steroids,” was developed as a “Saw experience” based on Chris Rock’s love of the franchise. The film will offer fans worldwide a new amped up level of deviously-treacherous traps, clever clues and the edge-of-the-seat suspense they expect from the one of the world’s most terrifying horror franchises.

The Saw franchise, distributed by Lionsgate, produced by Twisted Pictures, and created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, consists of nine feature films (buy at Amazon). The films began with Saw in 2004 and the last theatrical release was Jigsaw in 2017.
