Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando Closing Due to Coronavirus

-

Comcast’s NBCUniversal has announced it is temporarily closing its Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns. Disney yesterday also announced that Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Paris were closing until at least the end of March.

The Universal Studios Hollywood theme park said:

“The health and safety of our team members and guests is always our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution and in response to the guidance provided by the California Department of Public Health, Universal Studios Hollywood will temporarily close beginning Saturday, March 14. The theme park anticipates reopening on March 28 as we continue to monitor the situation.”

They added that “Universal CityWalk will remain open. We will provide timely updates as conditions evolve.”

UPDATE: Universal Studios Hollywood has added a few days and will now be closed through March 31st.

On the East Coast, Universal Orlando Resort said: “Out of an abundance of caution and to assist with our nation’s preventive efforts, Universal Orlando Resort will temporarily close its theme parks. The closure is effective at the close of business on Sunday, March 15. We anticipate remaining closed through the end of March – but will continue to evaluate the situation.”

They added: “Universal Orlando’s hotels and Universal CityWalk will remain open.”

If you have concerns about your booked travel, they said: “We have created flexible programs for those guests who have booked travel packages or tickets with us. Guests can call this number for more information: 877-801-9720. A core group of team members will continue to work on site. Hourly team members will be paid for any work scheduled through the end of March.”

In related news, NBCUniversal also announced the cancelation of its live Upfront event on May 11th due to health concerns. The company will instead televise and stream the Upfront Presentation for the 2020-21 season to ensure the safety of all participants while also reflecting the increasingly direct relationship between NBCUniversal, its fans and its partners. This will now allow all audiences to tune in for a sneak peek at the future of NBCUniversal’s programming.

NBCUniversal’s new Upfront Presentation will feature talent from across its portfolio and platform, and will preview new programming announcements, trailers and more, from Entertainment to Sports to News. Tune-in and programming details will be announced at a later date.

“At this moment in time, we can embrace a new future that puts our audiences and our partners first. This year’s Upfront Presentation will ensure everyone’s safety, while allowing us to give fans and marketers a preview of the upcoming season,” said Linda Yaccarino, Chairman of Advertising & Partnerships, NBCUniversal.

As far as the entertainment world, studios have also delayed the releases of such movies as AntlersA Quiet Place Part IIF9MulanThe New Mutants, No Time to Die, and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway. NBCUniversal has not made any changes to its release schedule and has Trolls World Tour coming out on April 10th.
