Peter Rabbit 2 Release Date Pushed Back Due to Coronavirus

-

A second major April film has been pushed back in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) fears. Previously set for April 3, the Peter Rabbit 2 release date has been moved to August 7, 2020, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The sequel was going to be released at the end of March in Europe, but the August 7 date will now count for those territories as well.

Last week, the 25th James Bond movie No Time to Die was moved from April 10 to November 25, 2020 in the U.S.

“The postponement comes amid major theatrical market disruptions across European territories,” says THR. “On Monday, as part of a newly installed nationwide quarantine, Italy announced that all its cinemas were to be closed, with others shutting in countries including France and Slovakia. Cinemas across China have been closed for several weeks.”

The Peter Rabbit 2 release date change makes sense, as the first film grossed $236 million of its $351.3 million worldwide total overseas. Another factor might be that Trolls World Tour was moved up a week to April 10th and would have come out just a week after Peter Rabbit 2.

In Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, the lovable rogue is back. Bea, Thomas, and the rabbits have created a makeshift family, but despite his best efforts, Peter can’t seem to shake his mischievous reputation.

Adventuring out of the garden, Peter finds himself in a world where his mischief is appreciated, but when his family risks everything to come looking for him, Peter must figure out what kind of bunny he wants to be.

The cast includes Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, David Oyelowo, Elizabeth Debicki, with Margot Robbie, and James Corden as Peter Rabbit.

Directed by Will Gluck from a script by Gluck and Patrick Burleigh, the sequel is based on the characters and tales of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.

The movie is produced by Gluck and Zareh Nalbandian. The executive producers include Doug Belgrad, Jodi Hildebrand, Catherine Bishop, Emma Topping, Thomas Merrington, Jonathan Hludzinski, and Ingrid Johnston.

The first movie (buy here) opened in theaters on February 9, 2018 and grossed $351.3 million at the worldwide box office, with $115.3 million coming from domestic theaters and $236 million from overseas markets.
