Christian Bale Confirmed as the Next Thor Villain

-

In January, it was reported that Christian Bale (The Dark Knight trilogy) had joined Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, but it was unknown who he is playing. While we still don’t know the exact role, Tessa Thompson has confirmed that Bale will indeed be playing the next Thor villain.

Thompson, who played Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok and will reprise the role of Love and Thunder, told Entertainment Tonight at the Westworld Season 3 premiere that Bale is set for the Thor villain role.

“Christian Bale is going to play our villain, which is going to be fantastic,” she said. “I’ve read the script. I can’t tell you much. Lots of exciting text messages exchanged between Natalie and I. We’re going to have fun. Taika is writing [and] directing. Some familiar faces. Some new people coming into the mix.”

Natalie Portman will return to the franchise as Jane Foster, who will become the Mighty Thor, the goddess of Thunder.

While she wouldn’t give any more details about Bale’s character, she did say she will continue to be the new ruler of New Asgard, a title she was awarded by Thor at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

“She’s king,” she said. “If she can’t find her queen, she’ll just be king and queen at the same time.”

Opening in theaters on November 5, 2021, Thor: Love and Thunder will be written and directed by Taika Waititi. Filming is expected to start this August.

Waititi will also be reprising the character Korg, who he played in both Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame.

Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok earned an impressive $853.9 million at the worldwide box office in 2017. $315 million of the total came from domestic theaters and $538.9 million from international markets.

In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his home world and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela (Cate Blanchett).

But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) — and grapple with his silver-tongued adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the fierce warrior Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and the eccentric Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum).

Avengers: Endgame saw Thor joining his fellow Avengers to take down Thanos. He then appoints Valkyrie as the new ruler of New Asgard and joins the Guardians of the Galaxy, who will go on a quest to look for Gamora.
