First Look at Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Hollywood

-

Netflix has revealed the key art and launch date for Hollywood, the new limited series from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. Consisting of seven episodes, the series will launch on May 1, 2020.

Hollywood follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood as they try to make it in Tinseltown — no matter the cost.

Each character offers a unique glimpse behind the gilded curtain of Hollywood’s Golden Age, spotlighting the unfair systems and biases across race, gender and sexuality that continue to this day.

Provocative and incisive, Hollywood exposes and examines decades-old power dynamics, and what the entertainment landscape might look like if they had been dismantled.

Hollywood stars David Corenswet as Jack, Darren Criss as Raymond, Jeremy Pope as Archie, Laura Harrier as Camille, Samara Weaving as Claire, Dylan McDermott as Ernie, Holland Taylor as Ellen Kincaid, Patti LuPone as Avis, Jim Parsons as Henry Willson, Jake Picking as Rock Hudson, Joe Mantello as Dick,

The guest stars include Maude Apatow as Henrietta, Mira Sorvino and Rob Reiner.

The series is executive produced by co-creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, along with Alexis Martin Woodall and Janet Mock, who also serves as a writer and a director.

In 2018, Emmy, Golden Globe and Peabody Award-winning producer, director and writer Ryan Murphy and his Ryan Murphy Productions entered into a multi-year deal to produce new series and films exclusively at Netflix.

“Ryan Murphy’s series have influenced the global cultural zeitgeist, reinvented genres and changed the course of television history. His unfaltering dedication to excellence and to give voice to the underrepresented, to showcase a unique perspective or just to shock the hell out of us, permeates his genre-shattering work,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix.

“From Nip/Tuck – our first licensed series – to American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson and American Horror Story, we’ve seen how his brand of storytelling captivates consumers and critics across the globe. His celebrated body of work and his contributions to our industry speak for themselves, and we look forward to supporting Ryan in bringing his broad and diverse stories to the world.”

“The history of this moment is not lost on me,” said Murphy. “I am a gay kid from Indiana who moved to Hollywood in 1989 with $55 dollars in savings in my pocket, so the fact that my dreams have crystallized and come true in such a major way is emotional and overwhelming to me. I am awash in genuine appreciation for Ted Sarandos, Reed Hastings and Cindy Holland at Netflix for believing in me and the future of my company which will continue to champion women, minorities and LGBTQ heroes and heroines, and I am honored and grateful to continue my partnership with my friends and peers at Fox on our existing shows.”

Murphy created the groundbreaking television drama Nip/Tuck, which won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama in 2005 and ran for six seasons. He also created the Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-winning series Glee, the Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-winning anthology series American Horror Story, Scream Queens, the Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-winning anthology series American Crime Story and the Emmy Award-nominated anthology series Feud.

Murphy wrote and directed the Golden Globe-nominated feature film Running with Scissors, starring Annette Bening and Gwyneth Paltrow; and the box office hit Eat Pray Love, starring Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem. In 2014, he directed the cable film The Normal Heart, which received 16 Emmy Award nominations and three Golden Globe nominations and won the Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie.
