After Life Season Two Launch Date and First-Look Photos

-

Life goes on. Netflix has announced that the After Life Season Two launch date has been set for April 24, 2020. The six-part series is created, written and directed by Ricky Gervais.

Set in the small fictitious town of Tambury, the comedy-drama series follows Tony (Ricky Gervais), a writer for the local newspaper whose life is upended after his wife dies from cancer.

In After Life Season Two, whilst still struggling with immense grief for his wife, we see Tony try to become a better friend to those around him. Each grappling with their own problems and only to be intensified by the looming threat of the local newspaper being shut down.

Will the town’s local Am-Dram show lift everyone’s spirits?

After Life is a Netflix original series from Derek Productions. Charlie Hanson is a producer and Ricky Gervais and Duncan Hayes are executive producers.

Alongside Ricky Gervais, returning cast members include: Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey, Doctor Who), David Bradley (the Harry Potter series, Game of Thrones), Ashley Jensen (Extras), Tom Basden (Plebs, David Brent: Life on the Road), Tony Way (Edge of Tomorrow), David Earl (Cemetery Junction, Derek), Joe Wilkinson (Him and Her), Kerry Godliman (Derek), Mandeep Dhillon, Jo Hartley, Roisin Conaty and Diane Morgan (David Brent: Life on the Road), Tracy-Ann Oberman (Eastenders).

Also joining are Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), Ethan Lawrence (Bad Education) and Bill Ward (Coronation Street, Emmerdale).

The six-episode Ricky Gervais series launched globally on March 8, 2019.

“I have never had a reaction like this before. It’s been insane. And heartwarming,” Gervais said previously. “But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”

Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, added: “After Life has moved audiences from laughter to tears around the world and we are thrilled to announce that Ricky Gervais will be back with a second season on Netflix.

“We are so proud to play host to Ricky’s brilliant stand up comedy, specials, original films, and series and join in the joy of the fans with his latest hit.”

Creator and star of The Office and Extras, Ricky Gervais has won three Golden Globes, two Primetime Emmys and seven BAFTAS. The Office is the most successful British comedy of all time, shown in more than 90 countries with seven remakes. The NBC version is the most successful U.S. remake of a British show in more than 30 years.

Gervais hosted the Golden Globes in 2010-12, in 2016, and returned for the fifth and final time last month. Considered the most influential British comedian since Charlie Chaplin, Gervais is an award-winning stand-up comedian, with five international tours to date. His live stand up show “Fame” became the fastest selling UK stand-up show in history.
