We’ve already seen a trailer and a Super Bowl spot for Wonder Woman 1984, but we have yet to see Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah in her final form. That might change today as merchandise for the film seems to have revealed the character.
So far we have only seen Wiig’s Barbara Ann Minerva, who becomes Cheetah, in the above promo art and the photo you can view below. Minerva is an archaeologist who befriends Diana Prince before becoming imbued with cheetah-like abilities.
The art that you can view in the social post below appears to have come from the cover of a Brazilian notebook made by Jandaia.
DC Comics officially describes the comic book character as follows:
Alternately enemy and ally to Wonder Woman, the Cheetah forever seeks a balance between her human and animal natures.
Archaeologist Barbara Ann Minerva always had a reputation for going to any lengths to retrieve the artifacts she was after, no matter the risk. Her attitude, unsurprisingly, resulted in tragedy. After growing increasingly obsessed with mythology and divinity, Barbara Ann took her team deep into the wilds of Africa, only to be trapped and forced to participate in an ancient, arcane ritual that cursed and transformed her into a human-cheetah hybrid with a lust for blood.
Once a friend of Wonder Woman’s, Barbara Ann blamed her transformation on Diana’s inability to save her, and harbored a grudge against the superhero that drove her to the point of madness.
Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing all-new foes. Director Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot in the title role, alongside Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as Super-Villain The Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Max Lord, Robin Wright as Antiope and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta.
Jenkins directs from a screenplay she wrote with Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham, story by Jenkins and Johns.
Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot and Stephen Jones are producing the film. Rebecca Steel Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Marianne Jenkins, Geoff Johns, Walter Hamada, Chantal Nong Vo and Wesley Coller are the executive producers.
The film is based on characters from DC. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.
Joining Jenkins behind the scenes are several members of her Wonder Woman team, including director of photography Matthew Jensen, Oscar-nominated production designer Aline Bonetto (Amélie), and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (Topsy-Turvy). Oscar-nominated editor Richard Pearson (United 93) is cutting the film.
Production took place in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Virginia, and in the UK, Spain and the Canary Islands.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents an Atlas Entertainment/Stone Quarry Production, a Patty Jenkins Film, Wonder Woman 1984. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures on June 5, 2020.
