Indiana Jones 5 Won’t Be a Reboot and a Look at the Rise of Skywalker Effects

-

A few updates on Lucasfilm projects have come in the last few days, including a look at the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker effects. But first up, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was interviewed at the EE British Academy Film Awards and was asked about both Star Wars directors and the status of Indiana Jones 5.

For Star Wars, she was specifically asked when we’ll be getting a female director for a film. She responded that they’ve already got them, with women like Deborah Chow and Bryce Dallas Howard directing The Mandalorian episodes and Chow also taking on the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

But those are not movies, of course, so Kennedy was asked a follow-up question about the possibility of a Star Wars movie finally getting a female director. “Oh, absolutely, without question,” she responded.

As far as Indiana Jones 5, she said: “We are working away and getting the script where we want it to be and then we’ll be ready to go.” Asked whether it will be a reboot and if Harrison Ford will be involved, Kennedy added: “Harrison Ford will be involved. It’s not a reboot… a continuation.” She said that Ford can’t wait to do the film.

It was previously announced that the release date for the fifth installment had been set for July 9, 2021. Steven Spielberg has also said that he expects it to be Harrison Ford’s last turn as Indiana Jones, but he thinks the franchise will continue beyond the fifth installment as well.

In related Lucasfilm news, VanityFair.com has posted a breakdown of the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker effects created by Industrial Light & Magic. The Rise of Skywalker effects are one of five nominated for this Sunday’s Oscars.

Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, and Billy Dee Williams.
