With Columbia Pictures’ Bad Boys for Life opening strong with $6.4 million at Thursday previews and the third installment receiving positive reviews, it’s no surprise to hear that Bad Boys 4 is already in the planning stages.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Bremner, who worked on Bad Boys for Life, has been hired to write the script for Bad Boys 4. The third film’s final writing credits include Joe Carnahan and Peter Craig receiving “story by” credit and sharing the “screenplay by” credit with Bremner.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are, of course, expected to return and the wait between movies isn’t expected to be nearly as long as between the second and third movies. Bad Boys hit theaters in April 1995 and grossed $141.4 million worldwide, while Bad Boys II reached $273 million globally in 2003. Both those films were directed by Michael Bay.
Bad Boys for Life also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Jacob Scipio, Paola Nuñez, Kate Del Castillo, and Nicky Jam. The third installment was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
In their article, THR also mentions that Bremner is writing the National Treasure 3 screenplay for The Walt Disney Studios, which is a nice surprise. Jerry Bruckheimer is a producer on both the Bad Boys and National Treasure films, so that makes sense.
The first two National Treasure films starred Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha. The first movie was released in 2004 and grossed $347.5 million worldwide, while the second movie debuted in 2007 and earned $457.4 million globally.
