Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani in the Trailer for The Lovebirds


Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for The Lovebirds, opening in theaters on April 3, 2020. Before the release, the film will debut in the “Headliners” section of the SXSW Film Festival, which runs from March 13th to the 21st in Austin, Texas.

In The Lovebirds, a couple (Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani) experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme — and hilarious — circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.

The movie stars Kumail Nanjiani, Issa Rae, Paul Sparks, Anna Camp, and Kyle Bornheimer.

Directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, Search PartyWet Hot American Summer), the film was written by Aaron Abrams and Brendan Gall from a story by Abrams, Gall, and Martin Gero. Principal photography for the movie began in January 2019 and concluded on February 27, 2019.

The producers are Tom Lassally, Oly Obst, Martin Gero, Todd Schulman and Jordana Mollick. The executive producers are Issa Rae, Kumail Nanjiani, Aaron Abrams, Brendan Gall, Michael Showalter, and Ben Ormand. Paramount Pictures and MRC Film present A Quinn’s House Production / 3 Arts Entertainment Production.
