The Hitman’s Bodyguard 2 Release Date Set for 2020

Lionsgate has set The Hitman’s Bodyguard 2 release date for August 28, 2020. The film, previously known as “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard,” is the sequel to the 2017 hit comedy action-thriller The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Made for $30 million, the original grossed $176.6 million worldwide, with $75.5 million coming from North America and $101.1 million from overseas.

Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek are returning from the first film. They are joined by Antonio Banderas (Mask of Zorro, Interview with the Vampire, Evita), Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby, Invictus, Shawshank Redemption), Frank Grillo (The Purge franchise, Kingdom, Wheelman) and Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?, How to Get Ahead in Advertising), who makes his return as ‘Seifert’.

Set on the Amalfi coast, the mismatched, high-octane trio are unwillingly pulled onto the side of the good guys as they battle to save Europe from a vengeful and powerful zealot with a dangerously over-developed sense of national pride.

Director Patrick Hughes returns to wrangle the onscreen comic mayhem, with Terry Stacey taking on cinematography and Russell De Rozario as production designer. Filming took place in London, Croatia and Italy.

Matt O’Toole and Les Weldon are producing for Millennium Media alongside Campbell Grobman Films. Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, Jeffrey Greenstein and Jonathan Yunger of Millennium along with Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell of Campbell Grobman serve as executive producers.
