Aladdin Spinoff Featuring Prince Anders May Go to Disney+

-

In August, we heard from producer Dan Lin about a possible sequel, but now there’s word that an Aladdin spinoff might be in the works as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has hired Jordan Dunn and Michael Kvamme to write a script for a spinoff centered on Prince Anders, the scene-stealing character played by Billy Magnussen in the live-action film (buy here).

Magnussen would reprise the part in a feature film, which would go to the Disney+ streaming service. Prince Anders is a suitor and potential husband for Jasmine from the kingdom of Skånland. Magnussen’s credits include Into the WoodsBirth of the Dragon, and Game Night.

Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the billion dollar-grossing Aladdin, are back as producers and Ryan Halprin will executive produce.

Aladdin opened in theaters on May 24, 2019. A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, the film is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, Aladdin was written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s Aladdin.

The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Alan Tudyk as the parrot Iago; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia; Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim.
