News on Green Lantern Corps, The Batman, Superman and More

We might be getting a new Superman film, Green Lantern Corps and The Flash from DC and Warner Bros., according to an article from Variety. The word is that more R-rated films are being sought after the success of Joker as well. In fact, there is all kinds of info to wrap up here.

Let’s start with Superman. A meeting has reportedly been taken with Michael B. Jordan, and there have been discussions with J.J. Abrams, but it’s very early in the process. With no script or director attached, the film isn’t expected until 2023.

The Batman we know more about. As you may have read, Robert Pattinson will play Bruce Wayne, and on the villains side we have Riddler (Paul Dano), Penguin (Colin Farrell), and Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz). The Matt Reeves-directed film will reportedly have some scenes that take place in Arkham Asylum.

As far as the R-rated films on the slate so far, we have the Margot Robbie-led Birds of Prey, as well as the likely R-rated The Suicide Squad from director James Gunn. “There’s a huge appetite for R-rated superhero movies and if Marvel isn’t going to step up, that presents an opening for DC to tap into that audience,” Jeff Bock, an analyst with Exhibitor Relations, told the site. Considering that Joker made over a billion dollars at the box office, it seems likely that the trend will continue if Birds of Prey and Suicide Squad do well.

Green Lantern in 2011 wasn’t particularly well-received, but Geoff Johns is reportedly delivering a script for Green Lantern Corps by the end of the year. According to the site, this may go to J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot who have a deal with Warner Bros. There is also a TV series about Green Lantern in the works for television from Greg Berlanti.

In addition, the Ezra Miller-led The Flash is still in the works with IT‘s Andy Muschietti set to oversee the film, and Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) to write the script. She’s also doing the script for the upcoming Batgirl film. The we have The Trench, which is a spinoff of Aquaman, which will be about, “a group of vicious undersea creatures who played a supporting role in Aquaman.” James Wan is set to direct Aquaman 2, which is set to begin shooting in early 2021.

Finally, fans who have been posting with the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, hoping that director Zack Snyder will give them a director’s cut of Justice League, might be disappointed in the last bit of news. Some of them have been saying that WarnerMedia’s HBO Max launch might give that cut a home. However, the article states that the studio has “little appetite” for spending the money it would take to do the cut. “There are currently no plans to release a Snyder version either in theaters or on HBO Max,” according to the site.

What do you guys think of all the DC Warner Bros. news? Are you excited for a Green Lantern Corps film? Who would you like to see play Superman? Let us know in the comments.
