Mark Wahlberg, who was once attached to play the Nathan Drake, is in final talks to play Victor “Sully” Sullivan in Sony’s big-screen Uncharted adaptation, according to Variety. Spider-Man star Tom Holland will play Nathan “Nate” Drake in the film, which is expected to begin production early next year. Sully is an American treasure hunter as well as an old friend and mentor at one point of Drake.
Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Two Strings) is set to direct the Uncharted movie. The project will become the first feature production of Sony PlayStation Productions, which was set up on the Sony lot last year. Headed by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, PlayStation Productions has come on to produce alongside Chuck Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad. Qizilbash and Swan will serve as executive producers.
Based on the Naughty Dog video games for PlayStation consoles, the film is said to take its basis from the sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in which the young Nathan “Nate” Drake (Holland) encounters his partner Victor Sullivan for the first time.
The movie, written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins, has been set for a December 18, 2020 release.
There have been four games in the franchise from Naughty Dog and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment, including Uncharted (2007), Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009), Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2011), and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016). A standalone game, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, was also released in 2017 and featured the characters Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross.
