Director Justin Lin has taken to his social channels to announce that the Fast & Furious 9 filming has officially wrapped. “It’s an official #F9 Wrap!,” Lin said. “This is by far the most ambitious film of the series and I am forever grateful to our amazing crew from London, Edinburgh, Tbilisi (Georgia), Phuket & Krabi (Thailand), and Los Angeles.”
Universal Pictures will open the anticipated ninth installment in theaters on May 22, 2020. The tenth film, also directed by Lin, is scheduled for an April 2, 2021 release.
The Fast & Furious 9 cast includes Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Anna Sawai, John Cena, Charlize Theron, Michael Rooker and Dame Helen Mirren.
Dan Casey wrote the screenplay from a story by Lin. Diesel is producing through his One Race Films and Lin for Perfect Storm Entertainment.
The Fast and Furious franchise is the ninth highest-grossing film franchise of all time, with $5.89 billion earned through nine films, including the spinoff Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Hobbs & Shaw grossed $759 million at the worldwide box office earlier this year, with $173.8 million coming from North America and $585.1 million from international markets.
