Scarlett Johansson Gives an Update on Black Widow

Last night, Scarlett Johansson appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about her upcoming film Black Widow. Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame ahead, so be warned. You can check out the entire interview with Johansson in the player below.

According to Johansson, Black Widow wrapped up “a few weeks ago.” She said, “I’m so excited about it. I can’t wait to share it with everybody. It was fantastic. I mean, I’m partial, but… it brought a closure to me that I needed. I was kinda, you know, wiped out after that last one,” she said in reference to Avengers: Endgame. “Emotionally and literally.” She also said that there are “very few certain things, but that’s pretty certain,” in reference to her death in that film. She said that many people don’t believe that the character of Natasha Romanov did not die in the film, and keep trying to convince her of that.

Fallon asked Johansson if she took anything from the set, because he would have. She joked that he would be arrested for taking Marvel property if he did that.

Johansson also joked about her upcoming wedding to Colin Jost and whether or not Michael Che will throw him a bachelor party, and talked about her new film Marriage Story. Johansson stars with Adam Driver. She said, “We’re really excited about the film… people have an experience when they watch it, I think, because, if you haven’t gone through a divorce, lucky you, either your parents have, or you know someone. It’s all kind of in there. The thing about this film, though, is that there is a lot of love in this movie… it’s very touching… I’m very proud of it. We did a lot of hard work on it.”

Finally, she spoke about appearing in the Taika Waititi film Jojo Rabbit. She had a hard time describing the film, but said, “Okay, it does take place in Nazi Germany, not exactly a hilarious time or place, but… why, why?” She explained that she plays the mother of a little boy named Jojo. “He is a character who has lost his father, and he is desperately missing him, and so creates this kind of imaginary father figure, who’s like the 10-year-old imaginary version of Hitler, and he’s in the Hitler youth program…” The audience laughed, and she said, “Just go see it!”
