Kanye West and IMAX have announced a new collaboration, a co-production that builds on the company’s exploration of new expressions of The IMAX Experience. Kanye West will release an all-new IMAX film, Jesus Is King, exclusively in IMAX theatres around the world on Friday, October 25, 2019.
Filmed in the summer of 2019, Jesus Is King brings Kanye West’s famed Sunday Service to life in the Roden Crater, visionary artist James Turrell’s never-before-seen installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert.
This one-of-a-kind experience features songs arranged by West in the gospel tradition along with music from his new album, all presented in the immersive sound and stunning clarity of IMAX. You can view the teaser poster for the film below.
West shared a sneak peek of the film during exclusive listening parties for his new album held Friday at Detroit’s Fox Theatre and last night in the Auditorium Theatre of Chicago’s Roosevelt University on a custom screen by IMAX.
Jesus Is King is the upcoming ninth studio album Kanye West. West began recording in August 2018 and originally announced the album as Yandhi. The album will release on September 29, 2019 and includes guest artists such as Clipse (Pusha T and No Malice), Ty Dolla Sign, Nicki Minaj, Kenny G, and Fred Hammond. You can view the track list at Kanye’s official site.
