Netflix has brought online the Daybreak teaser, which gives us a first look at Matthew Broderick as Principal Burr in the series. Daybreak will launch on the streaming service on October 24.
The high school apocalypse dramedy stars Matthew Broderick as Glendale High School’s Principal Michael Burr; Krysta Rodriguez as the biology teacher; Colin Ford as our hero and every-teen, 17-year-old Josh Wheeler; Sophie Simnett as Sam Dean, the most widely admired girl at Glendale High; Austin Crute as contemplative samurai Wesley Fists; Alyvia Alyn Lind as highly unstable kid genius Angelica Green; Cody Kearsley as Turbo Bro Jock, the bloodthirsty leader of the jocks; Jeanté Godlock as Mona Lisa, his badass right-hand woman; and Gregory Kasyan as Eli Cardashyan (not that Kardashian).
Based on the graphic novel by Brian Ralph, the subversive dark comedy Daybreak finds 17-year-old high school outcast Josh searching for his missing girlfriend Sam in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits, including a pyromaniac 12-year-old Angelica and Josh’s former high school bully Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors), zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.
Matthew Broderick will play the cheerful, upbeat principal Burr of Glendale High, who knows the name of every kid in school and their favorite character to play in Overwatch. In a hashtag-filled world of #metoo and #blacklivesmatter and #timesup, Burr is genuinely trying to be part of the solution: a good guy, an advocate and ally for all.
Aron Eli Coleite (Star Trek: Discovery), who is also involved with Locke & Key, is the showrunner and an executive producer of the 10-episode horror/comedy series. Brad Peyton and Jeff Fierson’s ASAP Entertainment (Rampage, Frontier) are also behind the show. Celeite also executive produces with Fierson and Peyton, who will direct as well.
