Chiwetel Ejiofor to Play the Infinite Villain Opposite Wahlberg

-

Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange, The Lion King, upcoming Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) is joining Mark Wahlberg, Sophie Cookson, and Dylan O’Brien in Antoine Fuqua’s action-thriller Infinite, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Paramount Pictures release is an adaptation of the D. Eric Maikranz novel The Reincarnationist Papers.

The book introduces readers to the Cognomina, a secret society of people who possess total recall of their past lives. Haunted by memories of two past lives, a troubled young man stumbles upon the centuries-old secret society of similar individuals and dares to join their ranks. Evan Michaels’ now public account takes us into this organization whose members have been agents of change throughout history.

The Reincarnationist Papers is officially described as follows:

Discovered in an antique store in Rome at the close of the last century, The Reincarnationist Papers offers a tantalizing glimpse into the Cogmonina, a secret society of people who enjoy total recall of their past lives and know by experience that they will incarnate into new bodies after their deaths. Associating with one another in each successive life, some are agents of change working lifetime after lifetime toward their goals, some are catalysts to history, some pursue loves and friendships through the ages, while others are jaded, self indulgent hedonists, staggering from life to life.

Haunted by memories of two past lives, a troubled young man struggles to survive on LA’s seamy underbelly. Recounted in three notebooks, Evan Michaels details the loneliness of his unique existence, his discovery of another like him and his eventual acceptance into the secret Cognomina.

In the movie, the Cogmonina must rely on a man (Wahlberg), who suffers from schizophrenia, to defeat an evil mastermind. Ejiofor’s Infinite villain has reportedly found a way to stop the reincarnation process and plans to use it on his own kind.

The adaptation is written by John Lee Hancock and Ian Shorr, with Hancock doing the most recent revisions. Infinite will be produced by John Zaozirny alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian at Di Bonaventura Pictures. Rafi Crohn is the executive producer.

The movie, which is scheduled for a release on August 7, 2020, will begin filming later this month in London.
