Pierce Brosnan Says James Bond Could Be a Woman

-

Could James Bond be a woman? Former Bond himself Pierce Brosnan says yes, according to an interview with THR. As you may have heard, Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) is said to be playing 007 in the upcoming film No Time to Die. Daily Mail explains that her character has taken over the 007 designation as Daniel Craig’s Bond has retired at the beginning of the next film.

In the THR interview, Brosnan was asked about a female Bond and replied, “Yes!” He continued, “I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting.” However, he gave this caveat. “I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis. I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.”

Brosnan, who played Bond four times, also said that the character will have to change with the times. “Without question, yes… The #MeToo movement has been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they’ll have to address that.”

Brosnan isn’t the only one who has spoken about this. Current James Bond Daniel Craig also said “of course,” in answer to a video question from Variety asking if he thought James Bond could ever be a woman. You can see the video in the tweet below.

No Time to Die will be released globally from April 3, 2020 in the UK through Universal Pictures International and in the US on April 8, from MGM via their United Artists Releasing banner. The film, from Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios (MGM), and Universal Pictures International is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (Beasts of No NationTrue Detective) and stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his fifth film as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007. Written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade (SPECTRESkyfall), Cary Joji Fukunaga, Scott Z. Burns (ContagionThe Bourne Ultimatum) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Killing EveFleabag), No Time to Die is currently in production.

No Time to Die also stars Rami Malek, Léa Seydoux, Lashana Lynch, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Billy Magnussen, Ana de Armas, Rory Kinnear, David Dencik, Dali Benssalah with Jeffrey Wright and Ralph Fiennes.

In No Time to Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
