Could James Bond be a woman? Former Bond himself Pierce Brosnan says yes, according to an interview with THR. As you may have heard, Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) is said to be playing 007 in the upcoming film No Time to Die. Daily Mail explains that her character has taken over the 007 designation as Daniel Craig’s Bond has retired at the beginning of the next film.
In the THR interview, Brosnan was asked about a female Bond and replied, “Yes!” He continued, “I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting.” However, he gave this caveat. “I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis. I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.”
Brosnan, who played Bond four times, also said that the character will have to change with the times. “Without question, yes… The #MeToo movement has been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they’ll have to address that.”
Brosnan isn’t the only one who has spoken about this. Current James Bond Daniel Craig also said “of course,” in answer to a video question from Variety asking if he thought James Bond could ever be a woman. You can see the video in the tweet below.
