Face/Off Remake in the Works at Paramount Pictures

-

Paramount Pictures is ready for another face swap as Deadline reports that the studio is planning a Face/Off remake. The original 1997 action thriller was directed by John Woo and starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage.

The trade says that Oren Uziel will write the script for the Face/Off remake, which will be produced by Neal Moritz and executive produced by David Permut. Uziel’s credits include 22 Jump StreetThe Cloverfield Paradox, and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog.

In Face/Off, the ordeal of superheroic, singularly dedicated FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta) is only beginning after finally capturing his archnemesis, Castor Troy (Nicholas Cage), an elusive, maniacal terrorist who claimed the life of Archer’s son. While Troy languishes in a coma, Archer surgically “borrows” Troy’s face in an attempt to gather evidence about Troy’s last bomb–which is currently ticking away in a Los Angeles office building. Trouble ensues when Troy wakes up faceless, borrows Archer’s visage, and makes a mess of Archer’s life; all the while, both men struggle to adapt to their new identities while struggling to blow each other away.

Made for $80 million, the movie earned $112.3 million at the domestic box office and $133.4 million overseas, for a worldwide total of $245.7 million.

Written by Mike Werb and Michael Colleary, Face/Off also starred Joan Allen, Gina Gershon and Alessandro Nivola.
