A24 has debuted the trailer for Waves, from acclaimed filmmaker Trey Edward Shults and featuring an ensemble cast lead by Sterling K. Brown. Waves is the heartrending story of one family’s journey to embrace love and forgiveness.
Following its revelatory world premiere at Telluride, Waves will next screen at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie will open in theaters this November.
Set against the vibrant landscape of South Florida, and featuring an ensemble of award-winning actors and breakouts alike, Waves traces the epic emotional journey of a suburban African-American family — led by a well-intentioned but domineering father — as they navigate love, forgiveness, and coming together in the aftermath of a loss.
Waves is about the universal capacity for compassion and growth even in the darkest of times. The cast includes Kelvin Harrison, Jr., Lucas Hedges, Taylor Russell, Alexa
Demie, with Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Sterling K. Brown.
Trey Edward Shults, who wrote and directed the film, is best known as the director and writer of the drama Krisha and the psychological horror film It Comes at Night.
The producers are Jim Wilson and Kevin Turen. The original score comes from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who have won an Oscar for scoring The Social Network and a GRAMMy for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
