Catherine Parker and More Join The Haunting of Bly Manor

-

Mike Flanagan today revealed the rest of the The Haunting of Bly Manor cast, which includes Catherine Parker, who played Poppy Hill on The Haunting of Hill House, as well as T’Nia Miller (Years and Years), Rahul Kohli (iZombie), and Amelia Eve. Miles and Flora will be played by Benjamin Ainsworth and Amelie Smith.

About Catherine Parker, Flanagan said: “Almost a decade ago, I first worked with Catherine Parker on a tiny movie called Absentia. Last season, she was unforgettable as Poppy Hill… today, I’m thrilled to announce that she’s joining us at Bly Manor.” He adds: “I’m honored and so excited to work with this incredible ensemble. Stay tuned for updates as we venture into Bly… it truly is a Great, Good Place.”

They are joining a cast that includes returning Hill House stars Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas, and Kate Siegel. They played Nellie, Luke, Hugh, and Theodora Crain in the series but will play new roles in Bly Manor.

Pedretti will play Dani, a governess who takes care of two very unusual children. Jackson-Cohen will play Peter, a charming young man who lives at Bly Manor and makes life very difficult for everyone who lives there. Other than Ainsworth and Smith, it has not been announced who the other cast members are playing.

Flanagan recently said that Bly Manor, which is based on Henry James’ 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw, will be much scarier than Hill House. “We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season, so it very much is a whole new deal. It’s a cool way to expand on some of the things I loved about season one, but within the framework of a new story, without having to be restrained by the decisions we made last time. For Henry James fans, it’s going to be pretty wild, and for people who aren’t familiar with his work, it’s going to be unbelievably scary. I already think it’s much scarier than season one, so I’m very excited about it.”

The highly-anticipated The Haunting of Bly Manor will launch on Netflix in 2020.

The Turn of the Screw, originally published in 1898, is a gothic ghost story novella. Due to its original content, the novella became a favorite text of academics who subscribe to New Criticism. The novella has had differing interpretations, often mutually exclusive. Many critics have tried to determine the exact nature of the evil hinted at by the story. However, others have argued that the true brilliance of the novella comes with its ability to create an intimate confusion and suspense for the reader.
