Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is joining The Suicide Squad cast, according to Deadline. Waititi’s next film, Jojo Rabbit, will open in theaters on October 18 and he will then begin work on Next Goal Wins, his next directing project for Fox Searchlight Pictures. As was previously announced, he will also write and direct Thor: Love and Thunder, which is opening in theaters on November 5, 2021, and he directed an episode of The Mandalorian.
Waititi joins a Suicide Squad cast that includes Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Flula Borg, Steve Agee (King Shark) and Nathan Fillion.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Warner Bros. Pictures‘ The Suicide Squad is scheduled to start shooting on September 23, 2019 for an August 6, 2021 release.
Charles Roven and Peter Safran will produce the feature. Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder will serve as executive producers.
Directed by David Ayer, the first Suicide Squad also stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Cara Delevingne, Karen Fukuhara, Jay Hernandez, Joel Kinnaman, and Jared Leto. Suicide Squad cost about $175 million and grossed an impressive $746.8 million worldwide.
