Scorpion and Shang Tsung Cast for Mortal Kombat

-

The casting continues today for New Line Cinema’s new Mortal Kombat movie, with Variety reporting that Chin Han (Skyscraper, The Dark Knight) is set to play Shang Tsung and Hiroyuki Sanada (Avengers: Endgame, Westworld, The Wolverine) will play Scorpion.

They are joining Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Mehcad Brooks (Jackson “Jax” Briggs), Sisi Stringer (Mileena), and Lewis Tan.

It was previously announced that the anticipated adaptation of the video game series will be rated R and will include fatalities.

Simon McQuoid is set to direct the new Mortal Kombat film, which will be produced by James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring Universe). Greg Russo wrote the script. New Line Cinema has announced that the Mortal Kombat movie will open in theaters on March 5, 2021, with filming set to start in Adelaide, Australia later this year.

Mortal Kombat debuted in 1992 when Midway Games released the first game. The franchise has already spawned two movies, one directed by Paul W.S. Anderson that was released in 1995 and a sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, debuted in 1997. There was also an animated series in 1996, Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, and the 1998 live-action series Mortal Kombat: Konquest, but both only lasted on season. Two Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series debuted in 2011 and 2013 as well.

Todd Garner also produces, with Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Sean Robins executive producing.
