Focus Features announced today that the Last Night in Soho release date has been set for September 25, 2020 in North America. Universal Pictures International will release the Edgar Wright movie overseas.
The other movies scheduled for September 25, 2020 are The Many Saints of Newark and Universal’s own Praise This.
The Edgar Wright-directed, London-set psychological thriller stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie, Matt Smith, Michael Ajao, Synnøve Karlsen, Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, and Rita Tushingham.
Edgar Wright and Penny Dreadful scribe Krysty Wilson-Cairns co-wrote the screenplay, produced by Nira Park, Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, and Wright.
Edgar Wright previously described the project as a psychological horror thriller set in London and starring a female lead. Citing Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski’s Repulsion as influences, Edgar Wright’s said the film “is about the London I’ve existed in.” He added: “I realized I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years. With Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in.”
Edgar Wright’s last film, Baby Driver, was a runaway success in 2017 with $226.9 million earned on a budget of just $34 million.
