ABC in Talks for a Female-Fronted Marvel Superhero Show

Now that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming to an end, ABC is in “active talks” to take on a female-fronted Marvel superhero show, according to Deadline.

There is no word about when the new series will air. ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke talked about the project at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. “I have spoken to Marvel and we are in active talks about one project in particular.” Burke reportedly said that the character the new Marvel superhero series will be based on is “something brand new, mostly.”

The site points out that this is not the same as the untitled series that ABC developed with Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg that will focus on female superheroes.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 will be the final season. The final 13 episodes are scheduled to air next summer. The sixth season wrapped up on Friday, August 2nd with a special two-hour episode.

Currently, ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ranks as the No. 1 program in Friday’s 8 p.m. hour this summer among Adults 18-49 and is improving in its new time period by 14% over the comparable weeks last summer to stand as ABC’s highest-rated series in the slot in 3 years – since summer 2016.
