Watch the Cameron Boyce Tribute from Descendants 3

-

Descendants 3 premiered last night on Disney Channel and with it came an emotional and wonderful tribute to star Cameron Boyce, who sadly passed away on July 6, 2019 at the age of 20 due to a complication of epilepsy. You can watch the Cameron Boyce tribute, which also includes a message to the channel’s young viewers, in the player below.

Boyce was known for his roles in the Descendants films, Jessie, and Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything. In 2008, Boyce appeared in a recurring role on television in General Hospital: Night Shift and made his feature debut in the horror film Mirrors and the action-thriller Eagle Eye. Two years later, he played the son of Adam Sandler’s character in the comedy film Grown Ups, a role he would reprise in the sequel in 2013.

It was in September of 2011 when Cameron Boyce broke out with the role of Luke Ross in Disney Channel comedy series Jessie, also starring Debby Ryan, Peyton List, Karan Brar, Skai Jackson, and Kevin Chamberlin. While a few of those stars went on to star in the spin-off Bunk’d, Boyce instead took on the lead role in the Disney XD series Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything, which ran from July 2015 to January 2017.

In the last four years, Boyce has played Carlos, the son of Cruella de Vil, in Disney Channel’s very successful Descendants films. The movies, which also star Dove Cameron, Booboo Stewart and Sofia Carson, kicked off with the first installment in the summer of 2015. The sequel debuted in the summer of 2017.

Descendants 3 is directed by Emmy and DGA Award-winning Kenny Ortega (Descendants, High School Musical) and choreographed by Jamal Sims (Disney’s Aladdin) and Ortega. The film was written by WGA Award winners Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon (Descendants, Descendants 2).

Descendants 3 unfolds on “VK Day” as fair-minded Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay — the Villain Kids AKA “The VKs” — cross the barrier and return to their birthplace, the Isle of the Lost, to bring four deserving Villain Kids to the coveted Auradon Prep in a land where they have a chance at success, happiness and fulfillment. But, it’s Mal who knows she must resolve to permanently close the barrier to the Isle of the Lost, fearing that nemeses Uma and Hades will wreak vengeance on her new home, the idyllic kingdom now ruled by her beloved King Ben. Despite her decision, an unfathomable dark force still threatens the people of Auradon, and Mal and her friends face their biggest challenge yet.

Reprising their starring roles are Dove Cameron as Mal, Sofia Carson as Evie, Cameron Boyce as Carlos, Booboo Stewart as Jay, Mitchell Hope as King Ben, China Anne McClain as Uma, Thomas Doherty as Harry Hook, Dylan Playfair as Gil, Anna Cathcart as Dizzy, Sarah Jeffery as Audrey, Jedidiah Goodacre as Chad Charming, Zachary Gibson as Doug, Brenna D’Amico as Jane, Judith Maxie as Queen Leah, Dan Payne as Beast, Keegan Connor Tracy as Belle and Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother. New to the cast is Cheyenne Jackson as Hades, Jadah Marie as Dr. Facilier’s daughter Celia, Jamal Sims as Dr. Facilier, and Christian Convery and Luke Roessler as Smee’s sons Squeaky and Squirmy.
