This Saturday at the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced the company’s full Phase 4 slate, which included five theatrical releases and five Disney+ series. First among the Disney+ shows will be The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which is coming to the streaming service in the fall of 2020.
In addition to Anthony Mackie (The Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) coming on stage to greet the fans at Comic-Con, and it was revealed that Daniel Brühl will return as the villain, Baron Zemo. Now Brühl himself has taken to Instagram to show off two photos of Zemo – one featuring the bearded character and a second one teasing the comic book character’s costume with the purple mask.
You can view photos using his Instagram post, in which he says: “„Longing, Rusted, Seventeen, Daybreak, Furnace, Nine, Benign, Homecoming, One, Freight Car.“ Zemo is getting ready.”
Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development & Concept Artist Andy Park revealed this image of Zemo with the purple mask almost three years ago for work he did for Captain America: Civil War. While that wasn’t used in the film, perhaps it gives a good idea of what to expect for the series, as it looks very similar to what you see in Brühl’s post.

I painted this Baron Zemo for #CaptainAmericaCivilWar At the end of the day his traditional comic book look didn't make sense for the story. But I had fun imaging how he could look if he were to don his traditional pink/purple mask. #villain #conceptart #illustration #design #costume
It was previously rumored that Emily VanCamp (who plays Sharon Carter in Captain America: Civil War and and Captain America: The Winter Soldier) would also be back, but that wasn’t confirmed by Feige this weekend.
The Disney+ series will be directed by Kari Skogland, the Emmy-nominated, BAFTA award-winning director, showrunner and CEO of Mad Rabbit. Her credits include episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, NOS4A2, The Rook, The Loudest Voice, The Walking Dead and much more. Malcolm Spellman is writing the series featuring the two superheroes.
