Andy Muschietti (upcoming It Chapter Two, It, Mama) is in talks to direct The Flash movie at DC and Warner Bros. Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Barbara Muschietti will produce, joining Michael Disco on the project.
The trade adds that Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson is being eyed to write the script.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who wrote drafts of the script and were previously attached to direct, have moved on. Ezra Miller, who played The Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, remains attached to lead the cast. Miller had written a script with Grant Morrison, but the studio is not moving forward with that draft.
Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly aiming to start pre-production in January, 2020.
THR says that “Goldstein and Daley’s exit is described as voluntarily… The duo have been with the project since January 2018, writing the script and developing it to direct. At one point, the project seemed like it was heading toward a start date in late 2019. But months of tensions over creative differences bogged down the project, with the duo deciding it was time to move on and find new opportunities.”
