Salma Hayek is in talks to join Marvel Studios’ The Eternals, according to TheWrap. It is unknown who she may play in the anticipated comic book adaptation.
She would join Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, and Ma Dong-seok in the film. Angelina Jolie remains in talks to star.
Created by Jack Kirby, the characters first appeared in The Eternals #1 (July 1976). The Eternals were created by the Celestials, who did experiments on human beings millions of years ago. They also created the Deviants, who, as the name suggests, are the villains of the story. The Eternals and the Deviants have battled each other throughout history. The Eternals can breed with humans and are like them in appearance.
The film’s plot reportedly involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans. Madden will be playing Ikaris and Jolie is expected to be playing Sersi.
The Eternals will be directed by Chloe Zhao, whose credits include The Rider and Songs My Brothers Taught Me. The script is by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Kevin Feige is set to produce the film.
