Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman are taking on Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom for Netflix, it was announced on Twitter today. The adaptation of the August Wilson play follows the woman dubbed “Mother of the Blues.” The film will be produced by Denzel Washington. You can check out the tweet below.

Davis and Boseman join Emmy Winner Glynn Turman, Colman Domingo and Michael Potts, according to THR. George C. Wolfe (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks) is set to direct the film. Shooting on the project begins next month in Pittsburgh. The script will be adapted by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Washington will produce with Todd Black and Dany Wolf. Executive producing is Constanza Romero.
Davis is known for her work in Fences, The Help, Widows and How to Get Away with Murder. Boseman is known for his work in Black Panther, Avengers: Endgame and 42.
