Buffy the Vampire Slayer and How I Met Your Mother star Alyson Hannigan and Parks and Recreation star Ben Schwartz have signed on to play the leads in the upcoming Disney+ film Flora & Ulysses, according to Deadline. The film is an adaptation of the novel Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures by Kate DiCamillo. The film will air on the upcoming streaming service Disney+. It will be directed by Lena Khan and written by Brad Copeland.
The novel has sold over 1.2 million copies and won the Newbery Medal for excellence in children’s literature. The Amazon description for the book reads as follows:
“It begins, as the best superhero stories do, with a tragic accident that has unexpected consequences. The squirrel never saw the vacuum cleaner coming, but self-described cynic Flora Belle Buckman, who has read every issue of the comic book Terrible Things Can Happen to You!, is just the right person to step in and save him. What neither can predict is that Ulysses (the squirrel) has been born anew, with powers of strength, flight, and misspelled poetry – and that Flora will be changed too, as she discovers the possibility of hope and the promise of a capacious heart.
“From number-one New York Times best-selling author Kate DiCamillo comes a laugh-out-loud story filled with eccentric, endearing characters.”
The project will be produced by Gil Netter with Sam Dickerman overseeing for the studio.
