While it’s unknown what role Thompson would play, it was announced many years ago that Stone would take on the role of the villainess Cruella de Vil.
Cruella de Vil was the villain of the 1961 animated classic and was played by Glenn Close in the 1996 live-action film 101 Dalmations and its sequel, 102 Dalmations, which was released in 2000. The character originated in Dodie Smith’s 1956 book, The Hundred and One Dalmatians. The book is officially described as follows:
“Dodie Smith’s classic tale about 101 Dalmations and their fight for survival against the evil Cruella De Vil. When Missis and Pongo’s puppies go missing, the two Dalmatian parents know the scary Cruella De Vil has had something to do with it. After all, she adores furs, and the Dalmatians have such beautiful coats . . . The dogs’ pets, Mr and Mrs Dearly, don’t understand them, so it is up to Pongo and Missis to rescue their pups – with the help of all the dogs in England.”
I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie is helming Disney’s new film with Marc Platt, Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn producing. Tony McNamara wrote the most recent version of the script, with Dana Fox writing a previous draft.
