Fifth Purge Movie to Take on Ghostbusters in 2020

Universal Pictures has announced that Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes’ fifth Purge movie will open in theaters on July 10, 2020. That’s the same date that Sony Pictures has scheduled Jason Reitman’s new Ghostbusters movie.

The studio has also set a November 20, 2020 release date for an Untitled Amblin Project. Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary’s Dune is scheduled to open that same date.

Following the record-breaking success of 2018’s The First Purge, which became the highest-grossing film in the notorious horror series, Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes return with a terrifying new chapter, written by franchise creator James DeMonaco (writer/director of The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year), centered on America’s annual 12-hour lawless rampage.

The Untitled Next Purge Chapter comes from producer Jason Blum (Halloween, The Purge), Man In A Tree duo DeMonaco and Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, The Purge TV series), and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

The Purge series premiered on USA Network on September 4, 2018. The series, which has been picked up for a second season, follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. As the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.
