As is custom in Hollywood whenever a big record is broken, the studio or filmmakers of the previous record holder congratulate the creators of the new accomplishment. Director James Cameron has now done the same on his social channels after Avengers: Endgame ended up sinking Titanic in just a matter of days.
He says: “To Kevin [Feige] and everybody at Marvel. An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You’ve shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, it’s bigger than ever! – Jim Cameron.”
Titanic (1997) was the No. 2 film of all for a long time having earned $2.187 billion worldwide ($659.4 billion domestically and $1.528 billion internationally). Avengers: Endgame has now grossed $652.9 million domestically and $1.650 billion internationally, for a global total of $2.303 billion.
All that stands in the way of the No. 1 global spot for Endgame is Cameron’s own Avatar (2009), which earned $760.5 million in North America and $2 billion overseas, for a worldwide total of $2.788 billion.
