Sabrina Carpenter to Star in Dance-Themed Comedy Work It

Sabrina Carpenter it set to star in the dance-themed comedy Work It, from STXfilms and Alloy Entertainment. Actor and entertainer Liza Koshy (Liza on Demand, Freakish) and Keiynan Lonsdale (Love, Simon) will co-star alongside Carpenter in the film.

Work It is a coming-of-age comedy about an awkward teenage girl (Sabrina Carpenter) who, after being rejected from her high school’s dance team, assembles a crew of bold and fearless misfits to compete against them in a national dance championship.

Laura Terruso has signed on to direct Work It and do a rewrite of the original script which was penned by Alison Peck, who also wrote STX’s new animated film UglyDolls. Alicia Keys will produce alongside producers Elysa Koplovitz Dutton and Leslie Morgenstein from Alloy Entertainment.

STXinternational will handle international distribution and directly distribute in the UK and Ireland. STXfilms’ Kate Vorhoff and Catherine Hagedorn will oversee the production on behalf of the studio.

Sabrina Carpenter is currently starring in Short History of The Long Road, which recently premiered to rave reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival. Her additional credits include The Hate U Give and Tall Girl. Her TV credits include The Goodwin Games, Girl Meets World, and Adventures in Babysitting. Her new album Singular: Act 2 will be released this summer.
