The Walt Disney Company is reporting that Avengers: Endgame opened with a record $156.7 million first day domestically (including Thursday previews). That is ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $119 million and Avengers: Infinity War’s $106 million first day earnings. With the film receiving an A+ CinemaScore from audiences, the studio is currently projecting a record opening weekend in the $310 million to $340 million range.
Internationally, Avengers: Endgame has already grossed an estimated $487 million as of the end of Friday. That means that it has already broken the record for the highest opening weekend internationally of all time, surpassing The Fate of the Furious‘ $443 million. Also, with China currently at $217 million, that is now already the highest-grossing three-day start of all time there and the total to date has already passed the opening weekend of Avengers: Infinity War ($201 million), with Saturday and Sunday still to go.
Globally, Avengers: Endgame has already grossed an estimated $644 million as of the end of Friday. That means that it has already broken the record for the highest opening weekend globally of all time, set by Avengers: Infinity War ($641 million).
The top territories include: China ($217.4M); UK ($27.0M); Korea ($23.0M); Australia ($19.7M); Germany ($15.2M); France ($13.5M); Italy ($13.4M); Brazil ($12.5M); Mexico ($12.5M); Philippines ($10.0M); India ($9.0M); Indonesia ($7.7M); and Hong Kong ($7.1M).
Disney is estimating that the Saturday gross in China will be $82.4 million, which marks the highest single day gross in industry history there. The four-day estimated total in China is $300.3 million, making Avengers: Endgame the fastest film in industry history to hit the $300 million mark.
On Friday, Endgame also became the biggest IMAX global opening weekend ever with Saturday and Sunday still to come, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($47.6 million). The IMAX network delivered an additional $25 million (including Thursday previews), bringing the global IMAX total to $52.1 million thru Friday. In China, it is already the biggest IMAX opening weekend ever through Thursday, with a three-day sum of $28.2 million.
