Michelle Yeoh to Play Dr. Karina Mogue in the Avatar Sequels

Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of the Avatar sequels in the role of scientist Dr. Karina Mogue. Yeoh will also star in the upcoming Star Trek series, which will expand on her current role as a member of Starfleet’s Section 31 division, a shadow organization within the Federation, on Star Trek: Discovery.

James Cameron started filming the performance capture for the sequels on September 25, 2017. Live-action filming will begin in New Zealand in spring 2019. Avatar: The Way of Water is scheduled to be released by Disney’s 20th Century Fox on December 18, 2020, and will be followed by Avatar: The Seed Bearer on December 17, 2021.


Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa will be released on December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025, respectively.

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver are returning for the Avatar sequels. Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, and Brendan Cowell are also on board. The young members of the Sully family are played by Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton, and Trinity Bliss, while the Metkayina Clan members are played by Bailey Bass, Filip Geljo, and Duane Evans Jr. Jack Champion is playing Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teenager, born at Hell’s Gate but who prefers his time in the Pandoran rainforest more than the asphalt of Hell’s Gate.

While not confirmed, Vin Diesel may have a role in the Avatar sequels as well.

The Avatar sequels will be produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau through their Lightstorm Entertainment. The James Cameron-directed sequels are written by Cameron along with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.

The first Avatar movie remains the highest-grossing film worldwide with $2.7 billion.
