Mark Hamill to Voice Chucky in Child’s Play!

At WonderCon today, it was announced that Mark Hamill (Star Wars films) will be the voice of Chucky in the upcoming Child’s Play movie! In addition to playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, Hamill is also known for his voice acting in animation and video games, especially for his portrayal of The Joker, which began with Batman: The Animated Series.

The Child’s Play cast includes Aubrey Plaza (Ingrid Goes WestLegionParks and Recreation) as Karen, Emmy and Tony nominee Brian Tyree Henry (AtlantaWidows, If Beale Street Could Talk) as Mike, and Gabriel Bateman (Lights OutAmerican Gothic) as Andy. Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) is directing from a script by Tyler Burton Smith (Kung FuryQuantum Break video game) that is based on the original motion picture.

A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, Child’s Play follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature. The movie opens in theaters on June 21, 2019.

David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith produce under their KatzSmith Productions banner. The duo produced last year’s smash hit remake of It, the highest-grossing horror film of all time bringing in $700 million at the global box office. Aaron Schmidt and Chris Ferguson executive produce.

Collaborating with Klevberg is a creative team led by Director of Photography Brendan Uegama (The CW’s Riverdale, Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), production designer Dan Hermansen (Star Trek: BeyondGodzilla), editor Tom Elkins (AnnabelleInferno), costume designer Jori Woodman (The BoyFinal Destination 5), and special effects supervisor Dan Keeler (Fox’s The X-Files, Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle).

Child’s Play, the 1988 film, went on to gross $44 million worldwide on a $9 million budget and spawned one of the most recognizable and successful horror characters of all time with its psychotic killer doll, Chucky.
