Stargirl Photo: First Look at Brec Bassinger in the DC Series

At WonderCon today, DC Universe revealed a first look at Brec Bassinger as Stargirl! The TV series will premiere on the streaming service in 2020. You can view the full Stargirl photo below.

In the comics, Stargirl is Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), a young woman who is described as smart, athletic and above all else kind. The high school sophomore is seemingly perfect life hits a major speed bump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. “Borrowing” the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.

The series follows Courtney as she inspires that unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past, and aims to reimagine Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in what promises to be an unpredictable series.

Luke Wilson will appear alongside Brec Bassinger, as well as a full team of likely retired or retired superheroes, the “Golden Age” JSA, including Joel McHale as Pemberton (who’s Starman on the series), Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Hourman, Brian Stapf as Wildcat, and Henry Thomas as Doctor Mid-Nite.

Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti will executive produce the series, which is the sixth overall for DC Universe. Johns, who will also write the series, is producing via his Mad Ghost Productions. Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions are also behind the series.

Johns and Lee Moder created the Stargirl character, who was named after Johns’ sister, Courtney, who died in the TWA Flight 800 explosion in 1996. Stargirl made her first appearance in 1999’s Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. #1.

Also announced at WonderCon today: The first season of Krypton will be added to the DC Universe service next week, on April 5th, Swamp Thing will debut on May 31st and Young Justice: Outsiders will be returning to finish up its season on July 2nd. Plus, Titans fans can look forward to that show’s second season this fall.
