Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie is in talks to star in Marvel Studios’ The Eternals, the big screen adaptation to be directed by Chloe Zhao, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Created by Jack Kirby, the characters first appeared in The Eternals #1 (July 1976). The Eternals were created by the Celestials, who did experiments on human beings millions of years ago. They also created the Deviants, who, as the name suggests, are the villains of the story. The Eternals and the Deviants have battled each other throughout history. The Eternals can breed with humans and are like them in appearance.
The trade adds that the story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.
Zhao, whose credits include The Rider and Songs My Brothers Taught Me, will direct from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Kevin Feige is set to produce the film.
Jolie will next star in Marvel Studios’ parent company Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, opening in theaters on October 18, 2019.
